ACT Veterans HockeyThe 2010 Veterans Club challenge promises to be bigger and better than ever. All clubs in the Canberra region are invited to nominate to be a part of the season. Details are below: When. The 2010 season will kick off on Monday 1 February 2010. The final dates will be confirmed when we have team numbers, but the aim will be to finish the competition by Easter, making the final round 29 March. Games are played on Monday nights and consist of two 25 minute halves. All games are complete by 10.30. Where: The competition will use fields at Lyneham and Tuggeranong, as well as playing at least one game each week at Goulburn. What we offer: the Club Challenge is the premier Veterans competition run by the ACT Veterans association. It is played in three divisions, so provides strong, competitive hockey for all levels of player. As well as providing the strongest preseason competition in the region, the competition provides players with the perfect build up to qualify for participation in New South Wales' over age Championships and the Australian Veterans Championships that will be held in October in Bunbury, Western Australia. Eligibility: To participate in this competition players should turn 35 or over in 2010. Women wishing to participate should be turning 30 in the year of competition. The exception to these age rules are goalkeepers, who can be any age. Cost: The Competition committee accurately charges each team for the facilities they use. As such each team's invoice will be slightly different, depending on how many games they play on each of the differently priced surfaces. However, the cost is approximately $120 per team per game. In addition to game fees, ACT Vets will be charging a registration fee of $10 per player per year. So I estimate cost will be $120 for each player. Player list - heads up Your committee has to admit that we don't know all of you. In fact we have no idea who is playing on Monday nights. So within the next two weeks we will be circulating a spread sheet to all managers to try and get some information about our members. This will be the most informal membership list in the world. You can choose how much or how little you wish to disclose, but of course the more we have the better we can serve you. The information will be held by ACT Vets and not passed on to either ACT Hockey or Hockey Australia.
Looking for a few extra bucks & some Umpiring experience ?
ACT Veterans hockey is trying to develop umpires for the Canberra competition. We will compile a list of interested junior or senior umpires, male or female who are interested in improving their umpiring.
Requirement: The requirement for this year is a competition running for six weeks from 30 October to 4 December. Games start at 7.30 and 8.40. Each game consists of two 30 minute halves with a 5 minute half time break. All games will be played at Lyneham. The competition is played in two divisions, and is a little more relaxed than normal competition. Vets provides umpires an opportunity to develop confidence and skill in a helpful and caring environment. A number of senior umpires play in the Vets competition and are able to provide advice, guidance and support.
Development:
Opportunity: ACT Veterans sends teams to a variety of 3-day carnivals throughout NSW, as well as the Australian Championships, a 10 day carnival held each October. Our hope is that umpires trained in our competition could fulfil our requirements at these carnivals. ACT Vets would subsidise travel and accommodation for any nominated participant. The standard of hockey in the NSW State and Australian Championships is very high, with all grades and divisions keenly fought. Participation is certainly seen as a prestigious achievement by all Australian umpiring associations.
Payment: Umpires will receive $18 per game. With two 60 minute games scheduled each Monday, an umpire can quite easily earn $38 for the evening or return $228 for the six weeks.
