WordPress the software dashboard is full of generic information which while accurate can be at times a bit unnerving in it’s language. for example the word critical gets used a lot and this is the case here.
the PHP version yes is important and it does need updating but ‘critical’ it isn’t. For me critical is the site is about to break and go off line.
they do to there credit use the word should in their recommendations
so must, should , could
this is a should task and Neill and I will get to it when we can
I’ve dealt with the other ‘critical’ issues which are actually could but anyway they are done
Interestingly, if you delete all the default themes as they ask, the next error which is critical is ‘you don’t have an alternative theme in case the one you are using fails!! go figure
anyway hope all well and we look forward to getting to the other side of this
